The difference between safe surgery and risky surgery is rarely made in the operating room — it is made in everything around it. Dr. Orozco does not operate alone. Every patient is assessed from several angles before a surgery date exists.

Is plastic surgery in Mexico safe?

It is as safe as the surgeon, the facility and the screening behind it — which is why those three things are worth verifying rather than assuming. Dr. Orozco is certified by the Mexican Board of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery (certification 2541), operates exclusively at Hospital Faro del Mayab (Christus Muguerza) in Merida with a certified anaesthesiologist, and clears every patient through internal medicine and cardiology before a date is set. No surgical procedure is ever performed in an office setting.

His licence numbers are public and you can check them yourself before you travel — see About Dr. Orozco.

The process

How the process works, first consultation to discharge

  1. Consultation

A full appointment, not fifteen minutes. Measurements are taken, sizers are used where relevant, and the procedure is explained end to end: what can be achieved, what cannot, and with which technique.

  2. Testing and preparation

Laboratory work, cardiology and internal medicine clearance, nutritional adjustments. If anything comes back out of range, surgery is postponed. No exceptions.

  3. Surgery

In hospital, with a certified anaesthesiologist and surgical nursing. Never in an office.

  4. Supported recovery

Direct contact with the surgeon through the whole post-operative period, with scheduled follow-up visits and availability for questions between them.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I verify a Mexican plastic surgeon's credentials from abroad?

Search the surgeon's name in the public directory of the Mexican Board of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the licence number in the Mexican federal registry of professionals (Registro Nacional de Profesionistas, SEP). Both are free and online. Dr. Orozco's numbers are medical licence 8436960, specialty licence 14126757 and board certification 2541. A certified surgeon will give you those numbers without being asked twice.

Is plastic surgery in Mexico safe?

It depends entirely on the surgeon, the facility and the pre-operative screening — not on the country. The questions that matter are the same anywhere: is the surgeon board-certified in plastic surgery, is the procedure done in a hospital with a certified anaesthesiologist, and is the patient medically cleared beforehand. All three are yes here.

Does Dr. Orozco speak English?

Yes. Consultations and follow-up are conducted directly in English or Spanish. For French-speaking patients, coordination and in-person support are handled in French through the international patient programme.

Where is the surgery performed?

At Hospital Faro del Mayab (Christus Muguerza) in Merida, Yucatán — a full private hospital with an equipped operating theatre, certified anaesthesia and the capacity to manage complications. No surgery is performed in an office setting.

How much does plastic surgery in Merida cost?

Cost is determined case by case and cannot honestly be quoted over the phone. It depends on the procedure and its complexity, operating time, the number of areas treated, the hospital, the anaesthesia team, pre-operative testing and the follow-up included. You receive a written, itemised quote at your consultation, with no costs appearing later.

Do you accept insurance?

No. The practice is private. Cash, credit and debit cards and bank transfer are accepted; PayPal for video consultations.

How long do I need to stay in Merida?

Roughly 7 to 10 days for facial or breast surgery and 10 to 14 days for body contouring. The return date is authorised at a post-operative visit rather than booked in advance — flying too early raises the risk of thrombosis.
